No to Ivory Souvenirs and Gifts

An example of effective leveraging of partnership with the private sector, the video "No to Ivory Souvenirs and Gifts" was produced by the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), with technical support and co-share from the USAID Wildlife Asia. GTAEF is the corporate foundation of the Thailand-based Minor Group that owns and manages a portfolio of 161 hotels globally, with large hotel chains in Thailand.

Based on USAID Wildlife Asia’s 2018 Research Study on Consumer Demand for Elephant, Pangolin, Rhino and Tiger Parts and Products in China, 25 percent of those who purchased ivory products bought them during travels outside the Mainland. This was after China imposed a domestic ban on all ivory trade starting end 2017.

The hotel chains can effectively contribute in the campaign to help reduce demand for illegal wildlife parts and products, such as ivory, among tourists in Thailand, particularly those who stay in their hotels. The video is now being shown for free in the in-room channels of 25 Minor Group-owned hotels as well as four Sukosol Hotels in Thailand.

GTAEF and USAID Wildlife Asia are promoting the video to other hotel chains in Thailand and Southeast Asia so that they may adapt the video with their own branding and disseminate it in their own networks. Please contact for more information.
