To expand good effort of USAID ROUTES Partnership, USAID Wildlife Asia will organize the Air Transport Sector Awareness Training in Lao PDR to empower civilian staff working for airlines and in airports to detect and report wildlife trafficking.

The “Air Sector Awareness Training” for airport ground handlers will be delivered in collaboration with Lao Airlines as the host of the event. The course will focus on how ground handling staff can help to combat illegal wildlife trafficking while loading or unloading cargo. It covers a general introduction to the illegal wildlife trade, global trafficking hotspots, common trading routes, and then goes into more depth about how to detect smuggling, followed by what a ground handler can do if they detect smuggling. Two half-day back-to-back courses over the course of one day are scheduled.
