ASEAN Handbook on Legal Cooperation to Combat Wildlife Crime

The ASEAN Handbook on Legal Cooperation to Combat Wildlife Crime provides a regional overview of the similarities and differences in the national legal frameworks that criminalize various wildlife and forest activities, particularly wildlife trafficking across the ASEAN region.

The Handbook is intended to fill a knowledge gap between the legal frameworks surrounding the issue of wildlife crimes, including forestry and fisheries offenses. It aims to establish a baseline of relevant laws among the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with a chapter for each country, including extracts of relevant provisions and laws under the national legal framework. The Handbook was developed and published in 2016 under the USAID ARREST program to provide a regional and national law and policy tool for ASEAN member states when developing, improving, and implementing their national legislation and policies on the illegal wildlife trade.
