Building on previous work undertaken by the USAID ROUTES Partnership in Thailand, the USAID Wildlife Asia Air Transport Sector Awareness Training aims to empower civilian staff working for airlines and in airports to detect and report wildlife trafficking.

The “Air Sector Awareness Training” for airport ground handlers will be delivered in collaboration with NokScoot as the host of the event on the July 24, 2019. The course will focus on how aviation staff can help to combat illegal wildlife trafficking – from check-in, to flight crew to baggage handlers. It covers a general introduction to the illegal wildlife trade, global trafficking hotspots, common trading routes, and then goes into more depth about how to detect smuggling, followed by what staff can do if they suspect or detect wildlife being trafficked.
